Pistol news

There will be one more IDPA shoot the first Saturday in November (11-5-2011). This shoot is a Postal match. A Postal match is an established IDPA course of fire which is set up the same nationally. All scores will be posted within the national register and compared with the national data base.

Sporting Clays

The Sporting Clays committee is still seeking donations to purchase another automatic clay target throwing machine. Currently we have received $ 2450.00 donations from our club members. Purchase of a new machine will cost $ 3900.00. An alternative may be to purchase a good used machine with the available funds. Your donations, payable to the Brooklyn Sportsman’s Club, can be made at the Club house or mailed to Brooklyn Sportsman’s Club, P.O. Box 713, Brooklyn, MI  49230.

The Sporting Clays Committee thanks those members who have already made donations and encourages more members to help with this project.

October 29, 2011 will be the next 3 Bird Fun Shoot. So get out that semi-automatic or pump shotgun and enjoy a 75 bird course featuring true triples, singles, report doubles and double report single. There will be rabbit, mini, battue, mid and standard targets. Registration will start at 8 am. Fees will include a “Modified Lewis Class “payout.

Regular shoots are the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month.

Shooting on Tuesdays continues at 12 pm and 5 pm. This is a good time to get that extra practice, casually shooting with your buddies.

The Club hosted the Jackson YMCA Fund Raising Event on Sept. 17, 2011. This is the 3rd year our club has provided the club house for their catered lunch and set up our sporting clays course for a 50 bird shoot. The YMCA had 40 shooters and had all said they had a great time. This is a good event for the YMCA and we look forward to doing this next year.

We are seeking to add more volunteer trappers as we have several trappers leaving soon for Florida for the winter. Individuals are trained to safely use the trap machines and perform as Range Safety Officers. Trappers receive shoot comp. cards for free rounds of shooting each time they work as trappers. They also receive reduced shooting fees on Tuesdays. Contact Bob Doan, 517-263-2527, if you would like to become a trapper.

Hope to see you at the range,

The Sporting Committee

Wellness of the Club

The club had a fantastic gathering on the 25th of September of all our workers and many spouses. Steaks were enjoyed by all. A friendly competition was held between the Sporting Clays shooters and the Pistol shooters. Although the competition was intense and both teams put up a great fight. The Sporting Clays shooters were able to just edge the Pistol folks. The best overall shooter of the day was Gene Fite. The most improved shooter of the day was Nick.

There cannot be enough thanks given to all the workers who made 2011 a great year for Brooklyn Sportsman’s club!

We need to give a special thanks to Mark Ottmer who once again spent the spring and summer raising pheasants for the club. Thanks Mark!

Another special thanks has to be given to Mick Holmes for getting the Club By-Laws and Rules and Regulations into electronic format and into Print. Thanks Mick!

Thanks to all the Pistol workers who made the Brooklyn Sportsman’s Club sponsorship of the State IDPA championships such a success!
